Adirondrack Furniture
Adirondack furniture is named for the Adirondack mountains where the first of this furniture was designed by a man named Thomas Lee in 1903. As the story goes, Mr. Lee wanted some chairs so he could sit outside his Westport, New York home and so he decided to build his own, testing his models on family members. The chair he ended up creating became the Adirondack chair. This chair was noted for it’s rounded slatted back, broad armrests and it’s seat which is lower in the back than in the front.
While this type of furniture was designed for the rural setting and looks exceptionally at home sitting outside log cabin retreats and beach homes it also has come to add style to patios and pool sides in more populated areas as well. Many stores and malls offer Adirondack benches for shoppers to sit and rest on outside their establishments or shopping centers bringing them into the commercial as well as private setting.
Types of Adirondack Furniture
Today Adirondack furniture does not just include chairs but lounges, ottomans, tables, benches, swings, gliders and dining sets. While many people prefer to use their Adirondack furniture as is, people who want cushioned comfort have the option of purchasing cushions to use with their furniture.
